Memorial Day Weekend marked one to remember for the Taiwanese American community in Los Angeles. The Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles (TACC) and the Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce Junior Chapter (TJC), co-presented by TAP-LA, held our inaugural Taiwan-US Investment Conference at the J.W. Marriott Los Angeles LA LIVE with over 500 attendees.
TACC President, Gerald Wang, kicked off the conference with opening remarks and welcomed to the stage TECO-LA Director, Steve C.C. Hsia; Royal Business Bank CEO, Alan Thian; Congresswoman Judy Chu; and Congressman Ed Royce. This full day event covered topics ranging from Big Data, Branding and Marketing, E-Commerce, to Virtual Reality and more. Over 40+ speakers comprised of CEOs, founders, and industry experts shared their knowledge, trials and tribulations, and advice with attendees looking to follow in their footsteps.
Father and son Jackson Yang (Founder & CEO of Seville Classics) and Frank Yang (Founder & CEO of simplehuman) shared their stories of success and bridging the gap between the first and second generation, a story that was all too relatable for audience members made up of cross generations.
Following the luncheon, William Hsu, Managing Partner of Mucker Capital, addressed the future of Silicon Beach. Attendees also sat in for a one on one interview with VIZIO CEO William Wang as he talked about his journey to success. Eric Rice, founder of 25 ventures shared his insights with a room full of entrepreneurs looking to learn the secret of success to bootstrapping. Then, came down to the moment the top 10 pre-selected finalists were anxiously waiting for all day – the PITCH.CO. With 3 minutes of pitching, and 5 minutes of Q&A, 10 teams pitched their companies in front of distinguished guests from venture capital firms. The winner was SKIT! Kids, an app that turns storytelling into a game.
